PROJECT RATIONALE:

In the last decade, the number of livestock in Khanbogd soum has been increasing rapidly, and over 170000 livestock were counted last year, which is negatively affecting pasture carrying capacity of the soum. Also, droughts and zuds occur every 4-5 years in this soum. The soum collects its hay and fodder over 1000 kilometers far away such as Ulaanbaatar and Sukhbaatar aimags. All of these indicate that it is necessary to have a standard warehouse for hay and fodder.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE:

Main objective of the project is to build a standard warehouse for hay and fodder in Khanbogd soum, to protect livestock from natural disasters or force majeure, and to improve the livelihoods of herders.

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION:

• The funding of Khanbogd soum construction of hay and fodder warehouse project was approved by the resolution No 2, on January 24, 2019 of the Fund Board of DSF.
• The owner aimag Governor’s office selected and made a contract with the contractor, and Gobi Oyu DSF made a funding contract with the project owner aimag Governor’s office and the contractor Logmon LLC to start construction work.
• By the end of 2019, 80% of construction will be complete.
• By the second quarter of 2020, construction work will be complete for commission.

OUTCOMES:

• Khanbogd soum will have a standard warehouse for hay and fodder.
• It will support the protection of livestock from natural disasters or force majeure.
• It will have a positive effect on the livelihoods of herders.
