CONSTRUCTION OF BUTCHERY AND МEAT PROCESSING PLANT PROJECT

PROJECT RATIONALE:

There is no meat-processing factory in Umnugobi aimag creating inadequate food hygiene for local people, organizations, and mining workers. Also, herders would like to sell their livestock with fair market price and the local meat related businesses need freezers and storages that meet hygiene standards. Moreover, 38,1% (25016) of total population in Umnugobi aimag lives in Dalanzadgad soum center. If annual meat consumption of per person is estimated as 84 kg, annual meat consumption of the soum center residents will be 2,101.344 ton. Processed meat products make 3% of local total meat supply.

 

PROJECT OBJECTIVE:

Main purpose of this project is to:

  • develop production that is suitable for Aimag
  • create jobs for local community
  • support and work with herders for their household income generation
  • produce value-added products and,
  • supply fresh products to local communities and entities.

 

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION:

  • The funding of the project for construction of meat sorting and storage factory with slaughtering unit in Dalanzadgad soum of Umnugobi aimag was approved by the resolution No 15 of the Board of DSF on October 2, 2019.
  • The owner aimag Governor’s office has selected the contractor and made a contract and Gobi Oyu DSF made a funding contract with the owner aimag Governor’s office and the contractor Good Root Inter Trading LLC for the commencement of the construction work.
  • The contractor and the co-funder Good Root Inter Trading LLC completed the work within the project timeframe. Upon the commissioning of Technical and State
  • Committee, the project was considered as successfully implemented.

 

OUTCOME:

  • Complex meat processing factory with meat sorting, storing and slaughtering units in Umnugobi aimag will be created.
  • Working together with aimag herders, herders who supplied hygiene standard meats to the factory will be awarded with dividends at the end of the year through cooperatives.
  •  Businesses and individuals who are engaged in the meat trades will have access to fully equipped deep freezing and cooling storage with a capacity of 400 tonnes.
  • Created 15-20 new permanent jobs for local citizens.
  • An opportunity for supply of meat and meat products to neighboring aimags, soums and big mining companies will be created.
